Metal Max is a series of post-apocalyptic RPGs (role-playing games) developed and published by Japanese game company, Data East. The games are set in a world where humans and machines coexist after a catastrophic event that almost wiped out mankind. Players take on the role of a protagonist who must explore the wasteland, battle enemies, and upgrade their vehicles to ultimately defeat a powerful enemy threatening the world's survival. The series features open-world exploration, customizable vehicles, and a variety of recruitable characters with unique abilities. The first game in the series, Metal Max, was released in 1991 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).
